The Impacts of Climate Change

Over the last 10 years, climate change has been a worsening problem and has continued to show its effects on the environment.  Here are some of the impacts of climate change that is already happening as predicted:

Temperature Rise

The year 2020 was recorded as one of the hottest years. Unusually high temperatures are not only uncomfortable but poses a lot of health risks on heat-related illnesses. High temperatures may also cause more disasters frequently such as heat waves, stronger typhoons, floods, and droughts that are not only threatening human lives but other species as well.

Forests are in Danger

Many people are aware of how climate change has drastically affected weather patterns and temperatures, but it’s also making serious damage on the Earth’s forests. Not many people may be aware, but how does climate change affect forests? Climate change may perpetuate a lot of forest disturbances like insect outbreaks, tree migration, storms, droughts, and wildfires. There has been a recorded average record of 72,600 forest fires annually since the year 2000.  The forest is not only considered as the earth’s lungs, but is also home to thousands of different species and is in grave need of help.

Oceans Heating Up and Rising

Since temperatures are going high, the oceans are also heating up since oceans soak up the heat and this causes ice sheets and glaciers to melt which then result to rising sea levels that would be dangerous for nearby island communities. Hotter temperatures also endangers marine life because the oceans absorb carbon dioxide that keeps it from the atmosphere. This will turn the oceans more acidic that would truly affect marine species.

Food Scarcity and Hunger

The effects of climate change in the environment meant it would also affect the global population’s food source. Increasing temperatures that lead to more weather disturbances would cause major destruction on agriculture, like fisheries, crops, and livestock. This is why climate change is also one of the top reasons behind poor nutrition and hunger all over the world.

These are some of the major impacts of climate change that are already happening and being felt all around the world. Awareness will help bring people together in protecting and preserving the planet.
